Dear Parents and Carers,

New Year Dr Bike – free bike checks, Wednesday 29th January 2025

We are pleased to be able to offer free bike checks in school. To keep ourselves safe while cycling it’s vital that bicycles are regularly checked for safety as well as given a little bit of TLC to keep them well maintained.

Your child may have received a bicycle as a gift over the Christmas period and even with the best efforts made, sometimes ‘Santa’s Elves’ may have missed something important! (They do of course have so many bikes to build on their production lines!).

So whether the bike is brand new or a bit older, please bring it in and leave it with Beverley, our Sustrans officer and she will give them a safety check and do any minor repairs such as making sure the elves put the front fork on the correct way (you’d be surprised how many are on back to front!), adjusting brakes, checking bolts, oiling chains and pumping tyres etc. A note will be left on each bike detailing any adjustments made and if further work is needed; please note this is a safety check and not a full service.

We know the roads and pavements round school are very busy, you may feel happier bringing the bike in the car rather than your child cycling; if they are keen to cycle, we’d strongly recommend that you cycle (or jog!) with them to help. You can leave the bike and collect it at home time or can wait and take the bike home straight away.
